Research Insights: The association between urinary incontinence (leaking urine) and disability among women This study examined the impact of urinary leakage on midlife and older women, revealing a strong association with increased disability. Women experiencing incontinence were more likely to face social isolation, reduced participation in social and physical activities, and limitations in communication. These challenges were particularly pronounced in those with mixed incontinence—a combination of stress incontinence (leakage triggered by coughing, sneezing, or jumping) and urge incontinence (a sudden, intense need to urinate). However, women do not have to accept urinary leakage as an inevitable part of aging. Numerous effective treatments are available, so speak with your healthcare provider to explore your options and regain control. | | |

What we are reading: Magnificent Sex by Peggy Kleinplatz, PhD and A. Dana Menard PhD Jean's pick: This book explores what makes sex truly fulfilling, based on interviews with people who report extraordinary sexual experiences. The key? It’s not about technique or performance but about deep connection, trust, communication, and being fully present. The book challenges common myths, showing that great sex isn’t just for the young—it often improves with time and effort. Rather than focusing on spontaneity or orgasm, the most satisfying experiences come from openness, exploration, and emotional intimacy. Bottom line: Magnificent sex is something anyone can cultivate with the right mindset and approach. |
